NewsVermont bans out of state firewood to control pests
The Forestry Department is alerting Vermonters about two non-native insects that pose a serious threat to our hardwood trees. They are the Asian Longhorned Beetle and the Emerald Ash Borer (see photos on bulletin board at the club house). They warn that people who "import" wood for their fireplaces and stoves, rather than using local sources, may be doing untold damage.. Areas near us have already been affected, and the U.S. Forest Service has banned out of state firewood at its campgrounds. Please be on the alert for either of these insect pests. Visit www.uvm.edu/albeetle/index.html for more information on the Asian Longhorned Beetle.
